So far so good at this larger-half-a-Loop. (Loop, N. Washington, used
to be M+ until the douchebags took over.) Had some sliders
(fantastic) and chili (which was a bit thin, but great flavors) It's
Tues night, so I can't reeeally give you a crowd report, which is
going to start majorly factoring into M+ status. If the place is
overrun with hipster fucks or suburban douchebags, you straight up
can't be M+.
Immediate M+ status. The place looks great, the staff is super
friendly and attentive, the food is fantastic. Potsticker soup and the
ceviche are high on my recommendations.
The fuck? Why is Mortimer's filled up with fancy girls, hipster fucks
and douchebags? Get the fuck outta my bar! At least there are a couple
good ol' straight barflies in here. Jesus. Don't come to a good dive
bar for a couple months and this is what I come back to?
Dissapointment, I know thy name.
Look. This place is fucking awesome. M+ doesn't cover it. Incredible
food, amazing house brewed sake, fantastic decor. Get in that ass,
Larry!
I know it's always food and foodstuffs on here...but you cannot get
more M+ than First Ave. Budo and Grieves with Cunninglynguists and
Unknown Prophets coming up. M+ hip hop, M+ venue.
@ilgatto Cod slider, jalepeno tarter sauce. For 3 bucks, you couldn't
beat this deal on the streets...of anywhere. First, the lightly fried
cod is sweet and moist, the heat from the jalepeno tartar sauce is
outstanding. Also, il Gatto has stepped their fry game waaay
up...these are skin-on, super golden Nick&Eddie or Bulldog style
fries. Fantastic.
Wood-fired octopus @ilgatto Let's put it this way. If HALF of the menu
is as good as this little app, il Gatto will be M+ before you know it.
Smoky, perfectly grilled octopus with a fantastic chickpea salad. The
drink is a "Sour Puss", which I loved, but do not recommend, unless
you KNOW you like grappa.
So, to be clear, I wasn't happy with Figlio closing. I frequented and
loved Figlio. So, if you're gonna fix something that ain't broke, at
least on the surface, il Gatto is the way to gogo. The interior is
*right* up my alley, simple, a little rough-hewn, slightly Asian,
touch of trattoria, smidgen of industrial, and they keep it nice and
dimly lit...as far as the decor goes, A+ on the refit. More things
unbroken and therefore unfixed, the best HH in M+. (See attached table
top.) As for the food? Still M+ pending, but let's just say so far, so
good.
